- Little Wildlings Nature Playgroup
December 13, 2018
9:30 am - 11:30 am
- Maroochy Bushland Botanic Gardens
Thursdays, 9:30am-11:30am during school term
Little Wildlings Playgroup is a nomadic nature based play group for children not yet of school age. Meeting in wild spaces around the Sunshine Coast, this Steiner influenced group follows a loose rhythm that revolves around free play and exploration in nature surrounded by a loving and compassionate community of parents who are guiding their children on the start of their life journey. Exploring the wilderness gets us out into our wild spaces where we focus on child led outdoor exploration for the majority of the session.
We like to describe our sessions by our flexible rhythm… the session will usually start with free play and exploration of the space. During this time your nature leader will offer a nature activity which may include the following:
- Nature crafts
- Playing with clay
- Exploring and practicing tool use
- Building cubbies
- Water play
- Mud kitchen play
- Nature walk
Inspired by Steiner philosophy which is deeply rooted in the connection with nature, we come together to sing songs with seasonal significance. The session will then end with seasonal story telling.
Each term we will visit the following stunning wild spaces twice depending on the season/weather:
- Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve
- Baroon Pocket Dam, Maleny
- Gardeners Falls, Maleny
- Ewen Maddock Dam, Landsborough
- Maleny Community Gardens
Nicki, co-director of Wildlings Forest School, is a born and bred country girl who left South Australia for greener pastures because she couldn’t handle the cold. Brought up on a sheep and wheat farm, Nicki enjoyed a fairly free-range childhood surrounded by nature and particularly enjoyed the family’s regular camping trips and days spent at the beach with friends. After travelling for a few years, a few jobs in outdoor recreation and recruitment, Nicki eventually decided to complete the teaching degree she nearly started after leaving school. Nicki enjoyed her years as a Secondary English and Outdoor Recreation teacher until the birth of her first son, when the thought of putting him into care and going back to work pushed her into taking a leap of faith and starting Wildlings Forest School with Vicci. Nicki is fortunate now to be able to work with her children a couple of days a week, and spend many more days outdoors in nature where she is happiest.
Each family that wishes to attend must pay a yearly $40 (pro-rata) membership fee. This fee pays for your families insurance for the year and entitles you to join both the North, South or Hinterland Playgroups. For term 4, this fee will be $10 on top of your term fees if you are a new member. If you have not yet paid the membership fee or fail to select when booking you will be invoiced and attendance will not be confirmed until it has been paid.
