Locations and Schedule

  • Travel back in time to the age of castles, knights, and dragons! On Medieval Day, children will craft shields and swords from natural materials, build forts and castles as their cubbies, build rafts to explore far off lands (ie the opposite creek bank) and take part in playful quests and medieval-inspired games. They’ll create their own coat of arms, practice their hand at whittling weapons, and enjoy a day of adventure straight out of the Middle Ages—all while forging friendships and memories in the great outdoors.

  • Get ready to build and float! On Raft Building Day, children will design and build their own rafts using natural and recycled materials such as pallets, tubs and ropes. They’ll work together to engineer water-worthy vessels, then test their creations by floating on them in the creek. This hands-on day will encourage teamwork, problem-solving, and adventure.

  • In the shade of the beautiful cottonwood trees, children will build cubbies and shelters using ropes and tarps and learn to tie simple yet effective knots. As the tide receds, we will explore the sand flats, searching for hermit crabs, paddle worms and other sea creatures. Please note that there are no public toilets at this site- we bring a camp toilet for children to use or they may do bush wees.

  • Take a step back in time and learn the ancient skills of survival! On Primitive Weapons Day, kids will learn the art of crafting simple tools and weapons using Opinel folding knives to whittle bows, spears, and other primitive creations from natural materials and invasive species. Under careful supervision, they’ll also practice using hand tools like saws and hammers to shape their creations. Meet Your Wildlings Forest School Leader

Hello, I’m Sara! I am your Forest School Leader, Play Mentor and the Brisbane Manager of Wildlings Forest School. I’ve spent years mastering my own bushskills and love all things nature and conservation. Now I spend my work days empowering children to try something new and learn skills through guided play session with hand tools and a hearty dose of adventure!

I love watching children build the confidence to have a go. I love their to watch their resilience develop when something doesn’t go to plan and I especially love watching them problem solve their way from an idea to actually making it happen. I always leave our sessions together with my heart full of pride for the amazing things that children achieve when they’re given the permission and trust to try and see what happens.

Ready for some fun and learning in the great outdoors? Join me on a Roaming Home School Adventure this month!
