Nature connection + Adventurous play advocates

Our society is responding to decades of risk averse approaches, preventing children from engaging in adventurous, outdoor play. As a result we are seeing a whole generation of children with physical, mental, and emotional problems associated with their lack of connection to nature, and engagement in imaginative, physical and adventurous nature play. To address this, our co-founders created Wildlings Forest School, where children can experience adventurous, nature play in the natural wild spaces of South East Queensland.

Wildlings Forest School was co-founded on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland in 2017 by Nicki Farrell (left) & Vicci Oliver (right). Nicki and Vicci are Teachers and Children’s Rights To Play Advocates.

What do we believe?

We firmly believe in the transformative power of immersing children in the natural world and allowing them the freedom to explore and play in a self-directed manner. By advocating for nature connection, we aim to ignite a lifelong passion for the environment, fostering a sense of stewardship and responsibility towards our planet. Similarly, promoting adventurous play encourages children to take calculated risks, building resilience, problem-solving skills, and a sense of self-confidence. Through our advocacy efforts, we strive to create a society that values and protects nature, while providing children with the invaluable opportunities for growth and discovery that come with immersive play experiences.

What do we do?

We are an alternative educational program that provides children with outdoor learning experiences in a natural environment. The program emphasizes the importance of play, exploration, and hands-on learning. Wildlings Forest School encourages children to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for nature, while also building confidence, creativity, and social skills. The curriculum is designed to be child-led, meaning that children have the freedom to choose their activities and follow their interests. The program is a great way for children to connect with the natural world and develop a lifelong love of learning.

What have we achieved?

  • Our co-founders established Wildlings Forest School in 2017, a multi-award-winning alternative education venture. Since then over 30,000 children have walked through our doors.

  • For the past six years, we have helped thousands of parents, educators, and teachers make the switch to natural play without stress, uncertainty, or paperwork.

  • Our co-founders are the proud hosts of the Raising Wildlings Podcast, which debuted at number three on the Australian Podcasts for Education chart. With over 460,000 downloads, we have interviewed renowned child development and education experts.

Our Just Cause

Imagine a world…

  • Where  ALL children are free to play, naturally.

  • Where childhood is filled with adventure, awe and wonder.

  • Where ALL children are nurtured through deep and meaningful connection to nature and their village.

  • Where  ALL children have a voice, and are trusted in their own innate wisdom

It is as simple and powerful as that!
