Introduction to Fire and Bush Cooking Workshop | Brisbane

Join Wildlings Brisbane Manager, Amanda England for a 'hands-on workshop where you will equip yourself with the knowledge and mastery necessary to teach and inspire children through the safe use of fire. 

What will you learn

  • How to create a safe fire area in your setting

  • How to safely light and build fires in a variety of ways and learn how to safely teach children to do the same

  • How to safely manage, maintain and extinguish fires and teach the children in your care to do the same

  • Learn some practical, hands and fire activities that may include making playdough over the fire, eco-dyeing and charcoal

  • Use simple fire and fire safety tools including the Kelly Kettle to make your own morning, lunch and afternoon tea

  • Embedding indigenous perspectives through fire including traditional oral indigenous fire stories and the traditional uses of fire

  • Embedding sustainability through fire

  • Create risk benefit assessments and policies for fire activities at your educational setting

  • Take home a booklet of suggested fire recipes and activities

Have you seen videos of children using a range of hand tools and would like to know how you can implement this in your setting? Then join Wildlings Brisbane Manager, Amanda England for a fun and hands on day in the Forest!

  • The premise behind risky play and why it is so important

  • How to create risky play opportunities in your setting

  • How to create a safe tools area in your setting

  • How to safely use and manage a variety of tools with children in your setting including specific training in the use of Bow Saws, Pen Knives, Axes, Hand Drills, Hammers and more!

  • Help to create risk assessments for tool use in your centre

  • Embedding indigenous perspectives through tool use
